Restaurant In Somersville Damaged By Wayward Vehicle

No injuries were reported in the late Thursday afternoon incident in which a car accelerated instead of braking and slammed into the door.

SOMERSVILLE, CT — Business was briefly disrupted at a Chinese restaurant late Thursday afternoon when a car slammed into its front door.

According to a state police report, the mishap took place around 4:14 p.m. at China City on Main Street. A 2004 Toyota Corolla operated by a 77-year-old woman from Enfield pulled into a parking space in front of the restaurant, but accidentally accelerated instead of applying the brakes.

The car traveled into the front entrance of the restaurant, causing damage to the front of the building and to a metal hand rail. The Toyota had to be towed from the scene, according to the report.
