Somers Scouts To Conduct Recruitment Event Saturday
Pack 83 in Somers is always eager to welcome new scouts into the Pack

Written by Kristin Foy
SOMERS, CT — Somers Scouts made the best of the last weekend of Summer Break. On Aug. 27, Pack 83 Cub Scouts organized a collaborative hike with Boy Scouts Troop 387 as well as the Somers Girl Scouts Troops. Families met at Old Camp Aya-Po to hike the Perkins Mountain Loop Trail.
Prior to embarking on the hike, scouts from BSA Troop 387 taught the group the Leave No Trace Principles, which include respecting wildlife and being respectful of visitors, among other principles.

Hiking is one of the activities scouts often engage in, as it provides an opportunity to learn about nature as well as preparedness. Every scout is encouraged to bring essential gear such as a flashlight, whistle, basic first aid kit, water and a snack.
The Four Aims of Scouting are citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership, and many events are held to hone these traits in the scouts of Pack 83. In addition to monthly hikes, Cub Scouts participate in campouts, fundraisers, food drives, the Four Town Fair Parade, and monthly focused Pack Meetings. In addition, Den Meetings (organized by grade level) occur regularly to work on the goals specific to that den.
