Thousands Without Power In Somers, Stafford Area: Eversource

SOMERS-STAFFORD, CT — Numerous social media reports of a transformer explosion on Route 190 near the Somers/Stafford border may be the cause of nearly 7,000 Eversource customers losing power in those towns Thursday morning.

As of 8 a.m., 5,615 customers in Stafford - a whopping 86.5 percent - had no electricity, while 1,074 Somers customers, or 25.1 percent, were also in the dark, according to the Eversource outage map.

Other Tolland County towns affected by power loss include Mansfield (1,487, or 19.6 percent), Willington (480,or15.8 percent) and Ellington (514, or 6.4 percent).
