King Donuts Replaces Former Whole Donut Shop In Enfield

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield may be notorious for having no less than eight different Dunkin' Donuts shops within its borders (that's right - eight!), but until very recently, it also laid claim to being the final surviving location of a once-thriving chain of pastry outlets, the Whole Donut.

Noted for its gimmick of its doughnuts being filled completely rather than containing a hole in the center - hence the name, the Whole Donut - there were more than three dozen shops in New England at one time, including two in Enfield. The shop at 309 Hazard Avenue closed about a decade ago, but with the closure of the chain's Canton location last March, the site in a small plaza at 920 Enfield Street became the last holdout.

That has changed, as a new sign proclaiming the arrival of King Donuts is in place.

On several Enfield-based social media pages, King Donuts wrote, "Under new management, coffee and donuts will be the same, not change, but added more food." A sign in the window indicates breakfast sandwiches are now part of the expanded offerings.

King Donut also has fairly new locations in Manchester and East Hartford.
