ENFIELD, CT — The Enfield community is still reeling over the unexpected passing of a bright young businessman in a motor vehicle collision last week, and residents and business owners from in and around town are rallying to assist his family during their time of crisis.

Jashua Martinez, 32, was killed May 1 when his motorcycle and a pickup truck collided near Grassmere Country Club on Town Farm Road. He left behind his beloved fiancée, Renée Daigle, and their two cherished children, Roxten and Remi Martinez, "who were the center of his world," according to his obituary at Leete-Stevens Family Funeral Homes.

He graduated from Enfield High School in 2010, where he played on the volleyball team and was voted by his peers as "Class Cutie." In his senior yearbook, he offered the quote, "Live life like there's no tomorrow."

Martinez certainly stood by those words. At the young age of 24, he opened his own business, Jashcuts Barber Studio, next to 7-Eleven on Elm Street. He grew the shop into a thriving, well-respected business, became celebrated for his extensive involvement in the community, and recently moved to a higher-profile location in the Enfield Professional Park at 139 Hazard Ave.

The night after his passing, hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil in front of his shop. Tributes to him have been flooding social media, mostly along the lines of what an outstanding person he was.

Visitation hours are slated from 4-7 pm. on Thursday, May 8 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road. A funeral procession will form on Friday at 10:15 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Enfield Street Cemetery at 11 a.m.

To help offset their staggering expenses, a gofundme account has been established to aid the family, as well as a meal train. Additionally, a number of local businesses are conducting raffles or donating a percentage of sales to his family.
