Monthly Support Group For Enfield Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The group meets one Monday a month in the early evening hours at the Stowe Early Learning Center, 117 Post Office Road, Enfield.

ENFIELD, CT — Each year in the United States, there are millions of children being raised by their grandparents, due to a variety of circumstances such as domestic violence, substance abuse or neglect. It presents a challenge to grandparents, who are suddenly finding themselves in a parenting role again. More than 100 cases exist in Enfield alone.

For more than two decades, the Enfield Family Resource Center and the Commission on Aging have offered a monthly support group to grandparents raising their grandchildren. Meetings are led by a trained facilitator, and speakers on different topics affecting grandparents are brought in to provide resources. The group provides a safe and supportive environment for grandparents to receive resources and a break from their busy lives with others who are in a similar situation.

A light dinner is provided along with supervised activities for children. The group meets one Monday a month in the early evening hours at the Stowe Early Learning Center, 117 Post Office Road.
