Are Vehicle Thefts Down In Fairfield? Police Say...
On Monday, an SUV stolen in Fairfield was recovered the same day, according to authorities.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The number of vehicles stolen in Fairfield so far in 2025 has dropped by more than half compared to last year, Patch has learned.
From Jan. 1 through April 28, 2024, a total of 35 vehicles were stolen in Fairfield, according to Sgt. Jenna Wellington.
For the same period this year, the number of vehicles stolen in town has dropped to 15.

The 2024 number might have actually been lower if residents did one simple thing more often.

"Additionally, a recent analysis of 2024 incidents showed that the majority of stolen vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside," Wellington told Patch. "The Fairfield Police Department continues to address this issue through ongoing community education and outreach initiatives, encouraging residents to lock their vehicles and remove their keys at all times."
An unlocked vehicle was stolen Monday in Fairfield, but recovered the same day, according to Wellington.
The GMC Yukon was stolen from a home on Knollwood Drive at about 6 a.m. on Monday, unlocked and with the keys left inside.
Monday night at about 11 p.m., the abandoned SUV was found at an undisclosed location. Additional details were not disclosed.
"The situation remains under investigation," Wellington said.
