The sailing safety classes will be taught by Community Sailing of Fairfield (CSF) President Robert Claiborne and Vice President Paul Zwynenburg, both veteran sailors. CSF will hold its Safe Sailing Seminars at the Fairfield Recreation Center at 75 Mill Plain Rd. on April 18, April 26 and May 3 at 7:00 PM
As a safety precaution, all returning and prospective members are expected to attend a seminar to refresh their skills for the season ahead which starts in mid-May. The seminars cover safe sailing procedures, boat operation, local navigation and club rules and regulations. The first event Tuesday April 18 will also include a presentation on safe kayaking procedures and rules for using any of the clubs’ boats.

“We’re entering our 27th year of operations providing safe, accessible and affordable access to the Long Island Sound. There are a couple of fun social events too,” said Robert Claiborne, CSF president.
“We are a private, self-supporting, not for profit organization currently involving some 90 households. Members are expected to know how to swim, sail, or paddle a kayak before joining. We operate under the auspices of the Town of Fairfield Department of Recreation. Members all work together to administer the organization and to help safely maintain our two Ideal 18 Sailboats and eight recreational sea kayaks all kept at Ye Yacht Yard in Southport,” he added.
