CT State Rep. Jennifer Leeper Appointed Chair Of House Committee

Rep. Leeper, a Democrat, represents the 132nd District, which includes Fairfield and Southport.

FAIRFIELD, CT — State Representative Jennifer Leeper (D-Fairfield) was appointed as House Chair of the Education Committee by Speaker Matt Ritter and Majority Leader Jason Rojas, her first term as Chair of the committee.

“I am honored to serve as the next House Chair of the Education Committee,” Rep. Leeper said. “It is an enormous responsibility and privilege to serve in this capacity to lift up the voices of our state's children, educators, and families. I am deeply committed to furthering our state's educational opportunities and academic excellence for every child. In pursuit of this goal, we must also support the teaching profession as we work to overcome our critical teacher shortage. Our schools are the vehicles for inspiration, curiosity, and social mobility and I am thrilled to partner with everyone doing this work to deliver the opportunities and futures that Connecticut's children deserve. I am deeply grateful to Speaker Ritter and Majority Leader Rojas for trusting me to do this important work.”

Rep. Leeper previously served as vice-chair of the Education Committee. In addition, Rep. Leeper worked in the Performance Office at the Connecticut State Department of Education and as a school administrator in New York City. Before being elected to the General Assembly, Rep. Leeper served on Fairfield’s Board of Education, focusing on improving school quality and expanding access to educational opportunities for all students.

“Rep. Leeper has my full confidence as our new chair of Education.” Speaker Ritter said. “I know her background in education combined with a strong commitment to students, educators and families will serve the state well in this new role.”
