Fairfield Democrats Gerber And Vitale Launch Selectman Campaign

Democrats Bill Gerber and Christine Vitale last week officially launched their campaign for First Selectman and Selectman, respectively.

FAIRFIELD, CT — On March 2nd, Fairfield Democrats Bill Gerber and Christine Vitale officially launched their campaign for First Selectman and Selectman, respectively, before a standing-room-only crowd at Metro Kitchen and Bar in Fairfield. Attendees included Connecticut Democratic Party Chair Nancy DiNardo, Fairfield State Representatives Cristin McCarthy Vahey and Jennifer Leeper, numerous local elected officials, Fairfield Democratic Town Committee leaders, and members of the public.

In her remarks to the gathering of some 100 attendees from across the political spectrum, esteemed special guest Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz assured the energized crowd, “Bill and Christine will move Fairfield forward!”

A Wesleyan University graduate, Bill Gerber and his family have lived in Fairfield since 1996. Mr. Gerber, who is a CPA with masters degrees in accounting and public health and an MBA in finance, has deep experience in finance, budgeting, strategic planning, and management in the corporate world. Committed to public service for Fairfield, Mr. Gerber has applied his professional expertise as a member of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), Fairfield’s legislative body, for the past 10 years helping the Town make better-informed decisions on finance, policy, and planning.

"What can Christine and I offer Fairfield?" Mr. Gerber asked the cheering crowd during his speech, and answered, "First, we will establish best practice governance. We will build a very professional administration, whose only focus is the business of Fairfield, the quality of life for all our residents, and opportunities for existing and new businesses. We will reduce political rhetoric, necessary for real collaboration.” Sharing why he is seeking the role of First Selectman, Mr. Gerber stated, "I have an obligation to do whatever I can to help make Fairfield the best possible town it can be."

Ms. Vitale is well-known in Fairfield for her many years of service in leadership positions with Fairfield PTAs and various education organizations. She has been a member of Fairfield’s Board of Education for six years, including four years as chair. Ms. Vitale has a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University and professional experience as a management consultant and administrator for professional and non-profit association clients. She, her husband Bill, and their three children have lived in Fairfield for 27 years.

During her speech, Ms. Vitale shared, "I take the saying that 'if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem' to heart. If we want to see positive change, we need to get involved, roll up our sleeves and get to work… It’s time to get to work.”

Both candidates referenced their tagline, “Together we’re better,” during their speeches, indicating that it was not just a slogan, but the theme of their campaign and a motto they believe in and live by.
