Fairfield First Selectman Remembered As Dedicated Public Servant In Celebration Of Life Event

FAIRFIELD, CT — More than 1,000 people attended the Celebration of Life event honoring late First Selectman Bill Gerber on Friday, according to News 12 Connecticut.

Gerber died July 15 at the age of 60 from complications following surgeries to remove a malignant brain tumor.

The Town of Fairfield shared the following statement for Gerber’s Celebration of Life event, which was held Friday morning at the Martire Family Arena at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt respect that the Town of Fairfield joins the community in mourning the passing of First Selectman William A. Gerber.

Bill was a dedicated public servant, but he was also a trusted friend, a passionate advocate for our children, our schools and our community, and a kind and steady presence in Fairfield. His leadership reflected his determination to do what was right for the people of our Town. He led with thoughtfulness, integrity, and a belief that Fairfield’s rich history, natural resources, and thriving business community made it the ideal place to live and raise a family.

Bill’s impact will be felt for many years to come. He touched so many people’s lives through his work and his friendship. He believed that we are better together, always. And we are.

On behalf of the Town of Fairfield, I extend our deepest condolences to all of Bill’s family and friends. As we gather to honor his life and his legacy, let’s also honor the dedication to service and community that defined Bill’s life.
