Fairfield First Selectman Undergoes 2nd Procedure For Brain Tumor

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber underwent a follow-up surgical procedure late last week at Yale New Haven Hospital, as he continues to receive treatment for a brain tumor, according to town officials.

The second procedure was deemed "successful," and "his medical team is pleased with the outcome," according to a statement Tuesday from town Communications Director Lisa Clair.

Gerber had the first procedure on July 1. Additional details about the two surgeries were not disclosed.

"The process of recovery from this type of surgery is complex," Clair said. "He is continuing to rest and recover at Yale New Haven Hospital. With the need for Bill to rest, his family has requested no visitors for the time being."

While Gerber recovers, Selectwoman Christine Vitale has assumed his responsibilities, and is serving as Acting First Selectwoman.

A timeline for Gerber's recover was not disclosed. Last week, several Fairfield officials offered
