Fairfield First Selectman Undergoes Surgery To Remove Tumor In His Brain

The surgery on Bill Gerber was performed Tuesday morning, according to officials.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber underwent surgery Tuesday morning to remove a tumor in his brain, according to town officials.

The procedure was performed at Yale New Haven Hospital, and "the surgical team reported that the procedure went well," Lisa Clair, Fairfield's Communications Director, told Patch.

"Bill is awake and in good spirits," Clair said, adding that Gerber is slated to undergo further testing.

The tumor was discovered over the weekend, prompting Gerber to begin treatment and designate Selectwoman Christine Vitale to serve as First Selectman in his absence.
