FAIRFIELD, CT — The deadline for a petition calling for Fairfield to revisit a recent decision by the Representative Town Meeting to dissolve the Parking Authority is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, not 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Town Clerk Betsy Browne and Town Attorney Philip Pires.

Browne and Pires issued the following statement Monday:

"Our offices have noticed there is an ambiguity in the form petition. The petition states that: 'Deadline for submitting petitions to Fairfield Town Clerk is 4:30 P.M. on April 15, 2025 (14 days after RTM vote).' Fourteen days after the RTM vote is actually April 14, 2025. In order to comply with the Town Charter requirements, all signed petitions must be submitted by 4:30 PM today, April 14, 2025, to the Office of the Town Clerk."

The decision by the RTM to dissolve the Parking Authority and move those responsibilities to the Parking Department, was done to improve efficiency, supporters of the move said.

Opponents of the move have said there was a lack of transparency in the process, and that the decision was rushed.
