Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance To Raffle Off 2 Bicycles This Week
The raffle was created to help promote road safety.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance is holding a bicycle raffle this week to promote safe and active transportation in the community.
Two bicycles — a child’s bike donated by Trek Bicycle Store Fairfield and an adult Jamis bike donated by Cycle Dynamics — will be awarded in a free drawing at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Fairfield Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.
Residents can enter the raffle by visiting the First Selectman’s Office in Sullivan Independence Hall through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29. Participants are asked to take the Safe Streets Pledge, agreeing to drive at safe speeds, stop for pedestrians, avoid distractions, share the road with cyclists and model safe behavior.

"The goal of the Safe Streets Alliance campaign is to make Fairfield safer and more connected
for everyone, drivers, walkers and cyclists alike," said First Selectwoman Christine Vitale in a statement. "We’re focused on changing our attitudes, our behavior, and our culture around the way we drive, walk, and cycle in Fairfield."
She added, "We’re excited to work with our partners at Trek Bicycle Store and Cycle Dynamics because bicycling brings people together. Cyclists greet their neighbors, reduce the number of cars on the road, and help create calmer, safer streets for everyone, including pedestrians and children."

About the Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance
The Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance is a Town of Fairfield coalition that includes representatives from the Police and Fire Departments, the Health Department, Fairfield Public Schools, Fairfield Public Library, the First Selectman’s Office, and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, all working together to encourage safer use of Fairfield roadways. The Alliance’s goal is keeping Fairfield roads safe for all residents, whether they’re driving, biking, walking, or riding a scooter. The "Road Safety Starts With You" campaign is intended to raise awareness, educate the public about driver, bicyclist and pedestrian rules, and promote slower, safer, friendlier streets. This year, the Town of Fairfield signed the Vision Zero Pledge, with the goal to end all traffic fatalities by 2034. More information can be found here.
