Fairfield University Names New CIO, VP For Information Technology

Steven Gstalder, EdD, will be joining Fairfield University effective April 24.

Steven Gstalder, EdD, will be joining Fairfield University as chief information officer and vice president for information technology, effective April 24, 2023. Dr. Gstalder is a higher education executive with more than 25 years of experience in information technology, library services, and institutional research.

Most recently, Dr. Gstalder has served as the vice president for library and information technology services at Albertus Magnus College, and has been a member of the president’s cabinet, overseeing strategic technology infrastructure and information management initiatives. In this role Dr. Gstalder has been responsible for enterprise systems and computing services, instructional technology services, network systems and support, internet communications, and help desk.

Dr. Gstalder established and led the college’s institutional research organization and had responsibility for library services. Prior to Albertus Magnus College, Dr. Gstalder served as vice president and corporate officer, chief information officer, and editor at the Kraus Organization Limited and its operating divisions: Productivity Press, Worldwide Artbooks, and Bernan Press.

Dr. Gstalder holds a BA degree in English from Georgetown University, a master of science in library and information science from Pratt Institute, an EdD from the University of Pennsylvania, and multiple professional certificates from Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia universities. He is a committed member of the IT community, serving on several committees of the board of the Northeast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP), and as a founding member of the Dominican Consortium—whose mission follows the Dominican Catholic educational tradition. He mentors first generation high-need college students as a volunteer at the Humanas Foundation.
