Food & Food Gift Card Drive This Weekend In Fairfield

More than 350,000 Connecticut residents are estimated to lose SNAP benefits starting this weekend.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A food and food gift card drive is scheduled in Fairfield on Saturday to help those less fortunate in the community.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Seagrape, 1144 Reef Road. See the flyer below.

With SNAP and WIC benefits set to expire this weekend, an estimated more than 350,000 Connecticut residents will lose assistance.

"Many in our community will need support with basic food and toiletries," Alexis Harrison, one of the organizers of the drive, told Patch. "People are stepping up to help, and there are many collections happening throughout town."

Saturday's event is scheduled throughout the day, with the proceeds going to area food pantries.
