To the Editor:

As a longtime Democrat and Fairfield resident, I fully support Republican and Independent Party
candidate Brian Farnen for State Representative of the 132nd District. I first met Brian when the
Mill Hill neighborhood faced possible overdevelopment on an environmentally sensitive parcel of
land. While the current state representative was dismissive of our concerns and chose not to
advocate for her constituents despite overwhelming data pointing to potential threats to public
safety and conservation of the Mill River - Brian took the time as a private citizen to meet with
neighbors and offered insights on environmental and state zoning regulations. Since then, he
has been instrumental in highlighting the numerous deficiencies in both the beach access bill
and proposed 8-30g development on Sanford Street. During his tenure in the State Legislature,
Brian gained in-depth knowledge of the unintended consequences of the 8-30g statute as well
as the need for diverse housing options in our towns.

The conversations around 8-30g in Fairfield are numerous and oftentimes full of rancor. The
majority of residents, including myself, will agree that the town and State together need to
adequately plan and manage housing affordability. Unfortunately, in its 32 years in existence,
8-30g has missed the mark on its well-intended mission. Brian’s willingness to listen and
creative problem-solving skills are vital assets needed in the General Assembly to reform the
statute and create policies that actually work. As General Counsel for the Connecticut Green
Bank, he also understands the critical need to balance development with conservation in order
to create a more sustainable and prosperous future.

As the former state representative, he knows firsthand how to work collaboratively in order to
support the interests of his constituents and town on a bi-partisan basis. His commitment to
Fairfield is evident through his volunteerism in youth sports, elementary and middle school
PTAs, and other local non-profit organizations. It is clear that Brian has a pulse on the critical
issues that residents face and is always ready to offer common sense solutions that will allow
the district to become more diverse and economically vibrant. Fairfield and Southport deserve a
leader and independent thinker who will put our best interests first.
