Letter To The Editor: Re-Elect Jennifer Leeper

To the Editor:

Why I am voting for Jennifer Leeper for state rep this November.

The idea of a representative government is core to our democracy, and I believe that we should each spend a little time to understand the positions of the people who are running for office in our district and then vote our beliefs.

For me, creating a safe and environmentally resilient town for our children and grandchildren is critical. I am now retired and able to spend most of my time volunteering to make our town more resilient to coastal storms and intense rain events as well as how to make our community’s approach to energy consumption and recycling and waste more sustainable.

Several key bills are likely to come up in this next legislative session including things like extended producer responsibility for consumer packaging, electric vehicle sales and higher efficiency heating options.

Jennifer Leeper has received a 100 percent rating on the 2022 environmental scorecard of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters supporting the clean air act, a zero-carbon grid, clean energy facilities and climate education.

I believe we need representatives like Jennifer to support and vote on similar bills in 2023 and beyond.
