Letter To The Editor: In Support Of State Rep. Jennifer Leeper

To the Editor:

I chair Westport’s Planning & Zoning Commission and I wholeheartedly endorse Jennifer Leeper for re-election.

Local TPZ Commissioners are working to preserve the small town feel of our communities while addressing the growing affordable housing crisis in our state. As a state representative, Jenn Leeper has stood out for her thoughtful and effective approach to this complicated issue. Instead of relying on snappy campaign promises, she promoted legislation to study and revise 8-30g. Every single time there’s a well-intended but poorly conceived proposal to upzone for density, Rep. Leeper not only confers with those us who are on the ground doing this work to hear our feedback, she pushes back effectively and persuasively to stop creating zones of densely developed, market rate units in small towns.

At the same time, Rep. Leeper has championed real solutions like encouraging local TPZs to adopt meaningful affordability plans that create accessibly priced housing in a way that works for our individual towns and infrastructure to ensure that teachers, nurses and police officers can afford to live in the towns where they work.

TPZ Commissioners are also focused on economic development. Rep. Leeper is unrivaled in her commitment to creating thriving Main Streets in our communities. It is no surprise her exceptional work has been recognized by the CT Main Street Center.

We are so fortunate to have legislators of Jenn Leeper’s caliber and character in our state legislature. I urge all voters of the 132nd District to re-elect her!
