Letter To The Editor: In Support Of Tony Hwang

Fairfield Selectman Tom Flynn writes about the state senator's work on behalf of the town and high school sports.

To the Editor –

I have known and worked with Tony Hwang for many years now on behalf of the Town of Fairfield, (while he was on the RTM, a State Representative and as our State Senator). Tony is dedicated to doing what is right for our Town as well as our State.

In the past year, Tony learned that I was involved in lobbying the CIAC, (the State’s High School Sports Governing Board), to review their practices and policies related to High School hockey, (and Co-Op rules unfairly impacting our local High School hockey program).

Tony jumped in with both feet and helped lead efforts in Hartford to better understand the
administration of High School sports throughout the State. While perhaps a small example of his efforts on our behalf, it was significant to the student athletes throughout the town and the state as the governance of High School sports has been controversial, (COVID restrictions and other poorly explained decisions parents believe negatively impacted our student athletes). Tony recognized the importance that student involvement in sports and other activities has in the mental health of our young people and fought for appropriate oversight to ensure future student athletes will have a better experience in High School sports.

I was a concerned dad and worked with him as a constituent, not a fellow elected official, and Tony did all that I would want my representative to do on behalf of myself, and student athletes throughout the town and state.

I am proud to endorse Tony Hwang for another term representing all of us in Hartford.

Sincerely,
Tom Flynn
Selectman, Town of Fairfield
