To the Editor:

I think most residents zone out when they hear the words "charter reform". It's not a very exciting topic, but one I believe is critical for residents to pay attention to. Fairfield's Town Charter has changed a great deal over the last few decades and our charter has not. As our governing document, it's important that it be updated to reflect our community. There are some very positive changes in the proposed charter, and I encourage residents to read the explanatory text and understand what they are. Something as simple as the term “handicapped persons” was replaced with “people with disabilities,” or "Selectmen" to "Selectpersons". It also allows for the digital posting of RTM legislative agendas which will save tax money previously spent on print newspaper advertising. I support the changes; I hope you'll join me in voting yes for Question 2 on the ballot November 8th. Learn more at www.voteyesfairfield.com
