New Urgent Care Facility Planned In Fairfield

CityMD is looking to open the new facility in a former dental office on Kings Highway East in Fairfield.

FAIRFIELD, CT — CityMD, an urgent care provider with more than 180 locations around the country, is proposing to open a new facility in Fairfield, at 320 Kings Highway East, according to a recent application to the Town Plan and Zoning Commission.

The facility would occupy a stand-alone building that previously held a dental office and nail salon, and would be CityMD's second Connecticut location. The company also has plans to open an urgent care site at 506 Westport Ave. in Norwalk in the near future.

According to architect Andrew Fredman, the Fairfield site would have seven exam rooms, a laboratory for storing blood and urine samples, an X-Ray room, a staff lounge and two offices, in addition to bathrooms, storage and miscellaneous space.

"A new storefront is proposed, eliminating the present entry vestibule," Jim Wendt, Fairfield's Planning Director, told the commission during a meeting this month. He added that the building is 4,000 square feet, and CityMD would paint the building's exterior white, which would change it from its current brown color.

"Looking at the plans, this will be a nice improvement," said Commissioner Steven Levy. "That dental office has been vacant for a number of years."

Because the building has not been used, the landscaping has not been well-maintained, and the commission is requiring CityMD replace two trees at the site with shade trees, and submit a landscaping plan to be reviewed by the planning department staff.

The commission unanimously approved the application.
