Opinion: RTM Votes To Dissolve Fairfield Parking Authority
It is an "an effort to better streamline commuter lot functions and remove redundancies between the authority and town government."
FAIRFIELD, CT — Elizabeth Zezima, Democratic Majority Leader of the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting (RTM), issued the following statement after the RTM voted to dissolve the Fairfield Parking Authority, in an effort to better streamline commuter lot functions and remove redundancies between the authority and town government:
"In an effort to promote greater efficiency across government operations, the Fairfield RTM voted to transform the Fairfield Parking Authority into the Fairfield Parking Department, which will allow the town to absorb all commuter parking operations. In doing so, commuter lot services will be better supported with more town resources, greater transparency, access to capital funding and additional oversight. While this change will not disrupt daily services for commuters, they can ultimately expect an improved experience that reduces red tape, redundancies and inefficiencies that existed under the previous model. We appreciate the years of public service and dedication from the former parking authority and look forward to their continued collaboration with commuters and the town on ways to further enhance Fairfield's municipal parking lots."
