Popular Swimming Area In Fairfield Closed: Health Department
The Fairfield Health Department made the announcement Tuesday.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The Lake Mohegan swimming area in Fairfield is closed for swimming on Tuesday, and will be closed again on Wednesday, due to high levels of bacteria in the water, according to the Fairfield Health Department.
All of the town's coastal swimming areas are open, officials said.
Fairfield often closes Lake Mohegan for swimming if the area receives an inch or more of rainfall within a 24-hour period.

"Previous studies by the Health Department after rainfall events have indicated that these amounts typically resulted in bacteria levels that exceed State and EPA recommended levels for closure," officials wrote on the town's website.
