Southporter's GoFundMe Campaign Raises Funds For Spinal Cord Injury Patients
Grace Moriarty's father, Sean Moriarty, suffered such an injury in a 2019 skiing accident, and was paralyzed from the waist down.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Running marathons are challenging, so athletes often look for inspiration to finish them. For Southport resident Grace Moriarty, she looks to her father, Sean.
Grace, who is competing in Saturday's Eversource Hartford Marathon, runs in honor of her father, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a skiing accident in 2019 that left Sean a paraplegic.
As a result, Grace is running the 26.2-mile event, as she did last year, to raise money for the cause.

"It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly five years since my dad, my brother Liam, and I took a holiday ski trip to Mount Snow that would unforeseeably alter our lives," she wrote. "On December 27, 2019, my dad’s skiing accident on that snowy mountaintop led to a broken spine, multiple broken ribs, and a punctured lung, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He continues to battle complications from his paralysis every day."
