FARMINGTON, CT — The polls have now closed as Farmington residents cast their votes for several key municipal positions in town, and Connecticut's Democratic Party is already reporting a stunning upset.

While the votes are still being counted officially, the Connecticut Democratic Party posted an announcement that Brian FX Connolly, a Democrat, had ousted incumbent Republican Farmington Town Council Chairman Joe Capodiferro.

According to the state's Democrats, it is the first time in 70 years that Farmington's top elected board will be led by a Democrat.

The town council chairman's seat is the town's top elected position.

Connolly won with 53.77 percent of the vote, with the incumbent Capodiferro getting 46.23 percent.

The new chairman will also have a Democratically-controlled Farmington Town Council to work with.
