Farmington HS Athletics Department Earns Major Honor

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association honored FHS last month for its integrity in athletics/academics.

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington High School's athletics department recently earned a significant honor regarding the program's integrity in academics and sports.

On Dec. 15, 2025, FHS athletics was formally recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) for earning the prestigious Quality Program Assessment (QPA) Award, a national distinction that recognizes exemplary high school athletic programs.

The NIAAA QPA is a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment that evaluates athletic programs across 10 rigorous categories, including philosophy and educational compatibility, program safety and risk management, communication, access and equity, sports medicine, technology, personnel and program assessment, and innovation and creative leadership strategies.

To earn this recognition, programs must demonstrate high-quality practices and earn at
least 80 percent of the available points in each category, meeting nationally recognized standards of excellence.

The assessment was completed by FHS Athletic Director Matt Martorelli.

To date, Farmington High School is only the third athletic program in the state to achieve this level of recognition.

"This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our coaches, athletic trainers, student-athletes, families, and the broader Farmington community, whose ongoing support is essential to the success of our programs," wrote FHS in a statement.

"We are incredibly proud of the culture of excellence, safety, equity, and sportsmanship that defines Farmington High School athletics and grateful to all who contribute to making our programs a source of pride for our school and community."
