New Moving Truck Operation Approved In Farmington
The zoning board recently approved a site plan modification allowing a storage facility to also offer truck rentals at its Farmington site.

FARMINGTON, CT — A Farmington self-storage facility has received the town's blessing to expand its business to include moving truck rentals.
The Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved at its last meeting, July 21, a site plan modification for Farmington Storage, located at 155 Scott Swamp Road (Route 6), to also operate a U-Haul rental truck business there.
Farmington Storage representative Charlie Talmadge of Development Planning Solutions of Bristol presented the application to the PZC that night.

He said the storage outfit would house no more than 12 U-Haul vehicles on the site, with only two trucks visible in front of the business.
The rest of the fleet, he said, would be in the west side of the parking area of the operation.

Specifically approved by the zoning board was a modification to the existing site plan already approved for the storage center, which is located in a commercial zone.
This will not require any new signage, Talmadge said, but the two U-Haul trucks on the property will serve a "dual purpose" of advertising the business's truck rental options.
The storage center is owned by Farmington resident James Calciano, who told the PZC the rental component of the operation would be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
He said the new rental truck option would not require any new staff at the site.
Aside from a couple of small questions on the site, the PZC offered no significant input and easily approved the site plan modification.
