Small Fire Disrupts Operations At Farmington's Dempsey Hospital

The facility is operated by UConn Health, which is investigating the cause of the fire.

FARMINGTON, CT — A small fire caused by an equipment malfunction on Monday night disrupted operations at the UConn John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington.

According to UConn Health spokesperson Jennifer Walker, the "small fire" happened in a hospital supply room.

She said the fire was under control "in a matter of minutes" and no one was hurt, with all patients being safe there after temporarily being relocated.

According to Walker, the fire started just before 11 p.m. in a utility room in an area known as "central sterile."

She explained that this is where sterile supplies for surgical procedures are kept.

According to Walker, early indications point to an equipment malfunction being to blame for the fire.

This morning, Walker said regular operations have resumed at the hospital, which is located at 100 Hospital Drive, Farmington.

Walker said firefighters from Farmington and West Hartford assisted with the response and the UConn fire marshal is investigating.
