Amazon Driver Helped Limit Effects Of Fire: Glastonbury Fire

"However, had it not been for the quick thinking of Kevin by dialing 911 the outcome could have been much different," officials said.

GLASTONBURY, CT — The Glastonbury Fire Department recently honored an Amazon driver who is credited with helping to prevent a serious fire by his quick action.

At 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, the Glastonbury Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm activation with a smell of smoke. An Amazon driver, who was later identified as Kevin, was making a delivery and unable to determine if anyone was inside the residence at the time, fire officials said in a social media post.

After several attempts to reach the tenant and property owner, the Fire Department used a ladder to gain entry through a second-floor window.

"Once the window was opened, Fire Department personnel observed a lite smoke condition inside the residential unit," fire officials said on Facebook. "The Fire Department quickly found a pot on the stove with the burner still on. The pot was removed to exterior and the unit ventilated with the use of electric fans. There was minimal damage to the unit. However, had it not been for the quick thinking of Kevin by dialing 911 the outcome could have been much different."

"For his actions the Amazon Safety Team at its Glastonbury facility, along with Fire Chief Michael Thurz presented Kevin with some Amazon gifts, as well as a fire department patch and challenge coin," fire officials said.
