In Memoriam: Audrey Carlson

The Glastonbury resident passed away Nov. 22 at the age of 91.

Audrey (Sylvernale) Carlson, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 22nd at her home of 62 years in Glastonbury.

Born on March 8, 1924 in Lakeville, CT, the daughter of George H. and Ruth (Piester) Sylvernale.

Graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT, 1942, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. After graduation, she was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and Connecticut State Highway Dept.

She was an avid bowler and participated in many regional leagues and tournaments in both duckpins and tenpins. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She was a member of the South Glastonbury Community Club.

She married William V. Carlson of Providence, RI, in 1948. They shared fifty years of happy marriage before Bill’s passing in 1998. Audrey is also predeceased by her sister, M. E. (Betsy) Sylvernale.

Her brother, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert J. Sylvernale, lives in Diamond Springs, CA with his wife, Gloria.

Audrey is survived by her two children, Lynn and her husband, Steve, of Browns Valley, CA and W. Eric (‘Rick’) and his wife, Rachel, of Framingham, MA. She also is survived by her four grandchildren; Willa Le of Sacramento, CA; Erica, Daniel and David Carlson of Framingham, MA.

Audrey and her family truly appreciate the friendship and assistance of Esther Derench for many years, and also the companionship provided by George Sercombe as she convalesced at Salmon Brook.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28th at Rose Hill Funeral Home 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill, CT. Viewing starts @ 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m., and the burial immediately afterward.
