Police: Granby Man Received 5.5-Pound Package of Marijuana

Street value estimated at $24,000.

Police allege that a Granby man received a shipment of more than 5 pounds of marijuana this week.

On the morning of Feb. 27, Austin L. Brown, 35, of 41 Pendleton Road, Granby, was charged with possession of more than 1 kilogram of marijuana, possession of more than one kilo of marijuana with intent to sell and marijuana taxation violation at 9:50 a.m on Meadow Gate Drive, according to police. 

Police said officers received information that large amounts of marijuana was was being shipped from out of state to a Granby address.

On the day of the arrest, Brown was taken into custody without incident after retrieving a suspected package, police said. A search warrant was obtained and officers said the package contained 5.5 pounds of marijuana.

The state Police Narcotics Task Force assisted Granby officers in the investigation.

Approximate street value is $24,000, police said. Police held Brown on a $100,00 surety bond and he was arraigned Thursday morning in Enfield Superior Court.

According to the Connecticut Victim Information and Notification Everyday network, Brown posted a modified bail and is due back in court on March 14. 

A listed number for Brown was out of service Thursday night.
