Greenwich Country Club Seeks Facility Improvements And Expansion: Planning And Zoning Docs
The club is seeking a final site plan and special permit for the improvement and expansion project.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Country Club, located at 19 Doubling Road, is seeking to make improvements to its main clubhouse and fitness facility, according to documents recently submitted to the town's Planning & Zoning Commission.
The club is seeking a final site plan and special permit for the project. The club previously submitted the proposal for a pre-application review in March, and has received approval from the town's Architectural Review Committee.
"GCC works to continually update and improve its member experience," architect Jerry Hupy wrote in submitted documents. "This project focused on improving the GCC's offerings relative to its membership by the expansion of the current fitness facility (including a ground floor squash court of 1,535 SF, and expansion of the upper floor for a fitness studio and fitness room totaling 2,812 SF)."

The existing ground floor grill would be eliminated to make room for improved member circulation and a properly sized kitchen, according to Hupy.
Additionally, the club is proposing an extension of the south facing open-air main porch to implement an open-air colonnade underneath to connect the exterior spaces on the ground floor which flank the porch, Hupy explained.

A 360-square-foot addition to the upper floor kitchen for a staff break room off the east end of the building is also being proposed.
Overall, the size of the facility is proposed to be increased by 7,893 square feet, according to submitted documents.
Greenwich Country Club is a private, non-profit club founded in 1892.
Set on a little over 148 acres on the east of Doubling Road, the property consists of the main clubhouse with dining facilities; a bowling alley and staff housing with nine beds; an 18-hole golf course, golf learning center, pro shop, and driving range; racquet courts, including tennis, squash and paddle; a pool complex with a main pool, baby pool and snack bar; a staff dormitory building with 71 beds; equipment and maintenance buildings; a tennis pro shop; a skeet/camp building; and several outbuildings including warming huts, on-course restrooms and storage sheds.
The proposal is expected to go before the Planning & Zoning Commission in the coming weeks.
