GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the death of David Wilson, a detective who served in the department for nearly 18 years. He was 58 years old.

Wilson grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Roger Williams university with a degree in criminal justice, according to the GPD. He later served in the United States Navy from May 1992 to June 1998 when he was honorably discharged.

"He began his career with the Greenwich Police Department on November 15, 1999, and quickly became known for his strong work ethic, sharp instincts, and unwavering commitment to justice," the GPD said.

In December 2004, Wilson, who was serving as a patrolman, became the GPD's first "Officer of the Month" recipient.

"His quick thinking and resourcefulness during a commercial burglary investigation led to the discovery of crucial surveillance footage that ultimately helped identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect," the GPD said. "This recognition was just one of many moments that highlighted his exemplary service."

"After nearly two decades of service, Detective Wilson retired from the force on April 1, 2017, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, bravery, and compassion," the GPD said. "He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments in law enforcement but also for his quiet strength, loyalty to his colleagues, and deep commitment to the people he served."

The GPD said services and memorial arrangements will be announced by Wilson's family at a later date.
