Greenwich United Way Names New CEO
A familiar face in the volunteer and banking worlds of Greenwich, the new leader will take over at the end of February.

The Greenwich United Way announced the appointment of their new President and Chief Executive Officer during the group’s annual meeting at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich.
A long-time Greenwich resident and volunteer, who was until recently, was involved in the local banking scene, David Rabin, has been named the United Way’s president and CEO. He succeeds Stuart Adelberg who resigned last June after 27 years of service.
In a statement released Thursday night, United Way board Chair Karen Keegan said, “David’s understanding and passion for raising awareness of local needs and creating solutions with lasting results will have a measurable positive impact on the lives of those who need our help the most. The Greenwich United Way is currently poised for significant growth and success, and we are pleased and excited to welcome David as the strong and capable CEO who will lead our organization in the years to come.”
United Way hired the consulting firm DRG, to help conduct the search for a new CEO — a search that was underwritten by a United Way supporter who asked to remain anonymous.
Rabin is a native of Clarence, NY and moved to the area in 1984. His experience includes leadership roles in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Rabin joins Greenwich United Way from Webster Bank, where he most recently worked as vice president.
According to the United Way, during the past 20 years, Rabin gained expertise in fundraising, business development and operations, and client service. He has served, or currently serves, on several local boards and organizations in town, including the Byram Archibald Neighborhood Center, Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, At Home in Greenwich, the Greenwich September 11th Memorial, Greenwich Youth Football League and the Representative Town Meeting.
In a letter to Greenwich United Way agency partners and supporters on Thursday night, Board Chair Keegan wrote, “Many of the boards and organizations which David has chosen are those which help the most vulnerable in our community. From coaching youth sports to revitalizing a children’s community center, David knows the importance of giving back.”
Rabin is married to Lauren Rabin, who was elected to the Greenwich Board of Education in November, and has two sons, Scott and Eric, who were born and raised in Greenwich and went through the Greenwich Public School system.
Rabin will begin his post at the end of February.
During the board’s annual meeting, Rabin said, “It is a privilege and honor to have been selected as the next CEO of the Greenwich United Way. Working collaboratively with the board of directors, we look forward to raising the awareness and achieving the goals, mission and vision of this extremely vital organization that has served the most vulnerable of our community for the last 80 years.”
Rabin added, “It takes an entire community to make a difference and we hope to unite the town of Greenwich to make a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most. When children and families are strengthened, when fostering self sufficiency is achieved, when assisting individuals in crisis is accomplished, the entire community benefits. Our challenges are clear and with the help of a united Greenwich, we will meet our goals.” Rabin said.
Following the Tudor Match Grant Challenge and recent extension of that grant by a group of board members, the Greenwich United Way will launch a new website and image as part of an intensive rebranding. The United Way website is www.unitedway-greenwich.com.
