Greenwich Will Keep Cooling Centers Open As Heat Wave Continues

First Selectman Fred Camillo is urging residents to take care of their health and check in on vulnerable friends and family members.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich will keep its cooling centers open and active as another round of high temperatures is expected to impact the region.

Connecticut’s extreme heat protocol will go into effect on Sunday, July 14, at noon and will remain in place through Wednesday, July 17, at 8 p.m.

The forecast is showing temperatures into the 90s in the daytime with a heat index between 96 and 106 degrees.

Overnight temperatures are also expected to feel uncomfortable, according to the latest forecasts.

According to the National Weather Service as of Friday afternoon, temperatures in Greenwich will be at a high near 94 on Monday and at a high near 96 on Tuesday.

Residents are being advised to protect themselves and beware of symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center will be open during its regular hours as will Greenwich Town Hall. Both buildings can be used as a cooling center.

Greenwich Library and its Cos Cob branch as well as the Perrot Memorial Library are also available, but the Byram Shubert Library is currently unavailable as a cooling center.

The Greenwich Public Safety Complex’s Margenot Atrium will be open 24 hours every day. These facilities will be available to any resident who needs a respite from the heat and humidity.
