Keeping Up with Health Trends at Greenwich Library

The library is offering a series of programs to make homes safer, healthier; health-technology lectures; blood pressure screenings.

Throughout January the Greenwich Library cosponsoring a program on toxins in the home, including tips for reducing exposure.

The Greenwich Library Health Information Center provides privacy and access to resources and information on a variety of health related topics. The Center houses more than 100 reference books, 40 periodicals, four medical databases, a health-focused bulletin board and two dedicated printer-enabled workstations. A full-time health librarian is available to help patrons utilize Llibrary resources.

Tuesday, January 12 from 7-9 p.m., Safer Homes, Healthier Families: Reducing Exposure to Flame Retardants & Toxins
Find out what you should know and what you can do to make your home safer and your family healthier. Renowned scientist and advocate, Arlene Blum, PhD, will discuss common household toxins, particularly flame retardants, harming the environment and creating health risks. Sponsored by Greenwich Library, Greening Our Children, Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center, Lillian August, YWCA Greenwich, The Northeast Organic Farming Association of CT, ConnFACT and Coalition for a Safe and Healthy CT. Saturday, January 23 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Trending Monthly: Health and Technology
Separate myth from reality within the food industry. Come learn how to use technology to track and maintain your health while having fun at the same time. Instructor Lance Pendleton.

Regular Health Programming
Every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., (January 11, 25) free blood pressure screenings are conducted by a registered nurse from Greenwich Hospital in the Health Information Center on the first floor. No appointment necessary.
January’s Health Information Center Book Display, (a topical selection of Library resources curated by the Library’s Health Librarian), will be “New Year, New You”. This will include books on diet, fitness and some winter sports.
