Mega Millions, Powerball: Connecticut’s Biggest Payouts Of 2018

The combined winnings for the Mega Millions and the Powerball jackpot this weekend have reached over half a billion dollars.

The drawing for the Mega Millions prize of $433,000,000 took place Friday at 11 p.m. EST and no one won which means the jackpot is now at $493 million on Tuesday. According to the Connecticut Lottery, one person won $10,000 last night and overall 22,275 people won some money in Connecticut. The winning Mega Millions numbers for Friday, July 20, are 1, 14, 30, 44, and 62, and the gold Mega ball is 1. The Megaplier is 2.

If you don’t get lucky in that drawing, you could still win big in the Powerball drawing that takes place on Saturday just before 10 p.m. EST. The Powerball jackpot this weekend is $130,000,000.

Individual lottery jackpots have far exceeded the combined prize money in play for this weekend. In January 2016, the Powerball jackpot reached $1.6 billion and the winnings were split among three lucky winners in California, Tennessee and Florida.

While you may not win the big prize, you could still walk away with a good chunk of money in either of the two games or by playing one of the many Connecticut lottery games. In Connecticut, $5 million has been the biggest payout so far in 2018. That prize was claimed by Stratford resident Robert Nickle.

After winning his Mega Millions prize, Nickle said he's going fishing.

"After today, no more work—I'm going fishing!," he said. "Normally I go fishing near the Long Island Sound, but I might travel out some more now—maybe to Maine!"
