In Memoriam: Mabel Marlowe Koliche

The Greenwich resident passed away Jan. 20 at the age of 97.

Mabel Marlowe Koliche, a Greenwich resident for the past 15 years, passed away Jan. 20, 2016. She was 97.

Mrs. Koliche was born in Togus ME on April 17, 1918 at the military hospital where her father was stationed during WWI. She is the daughter of Eunice and Clifton Sleeper.

Later after the death of her father, her mother re married Dr. lames W Murphy who adopted her and whose name she assumed.

She grew up in Peaks Island, ME and attended the Emerson Mason School where she majored in music and dance. She graduated from Gorham Teachers College at the University of Southern Maine where she was appointed to the faculty of the campus demonstration school. In 1944 she married Lt. John Baxter Koliche who was stationed In the South Pacific theatre of operations at the time of their marriage. During their married life they lived in Wheeling, WV where their daughter Darby Cartun grew up and later in New York City, Greenwich and South Hampton, NY.

Mrs. Koliche was on the board of Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, Wheeling Country Day School and a member of the Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church. In Greenwich, she attended Christ Church.

She is survived by her daughter Darby Cartun, grandson Baxter W. Wasson of New York City and great-granddaughters Margaux and Cecily, children of Baxter and Lauren Wasson.

Allan Cartun was a cherished son-in-law.
