Bench By The River

Nearby Stone Mentions The Battle Of Groton Heights

You may recognize this view, though the bench is easy to pass by.

Nearby, just outside the photo, a round stone reads, "In honor of the 38 patriots who were carried as prisoners in boats to New York from this shore after the battle of Groton Heights, September 6, 1781."

Do you know where it is?

This week, our shout out goes to 12 people who correctly guessed that last week's photo of the old stone building was taken on Route 117 on the Groton Reservoir property, not far from the Mystic Marriott.

Robin Thomas, Heather Picazio, Alison White, Debra Dickey, Dana Gouette, Lee Ann Swan, Gabriel Glaza, Jim Hollister, Bill Jessier, Shannon Ryan, Susan Bailey and John Duplin all quickly identified it.

Hollister mentioned that the building had a lot of poison ivy growing up the side when he was allowed to hike there a couple years ago. Even looking from a distance, we don't doubt it.
