Burning Question Of The Week: Is The Groton School Board Showing Leadership?

Superintendent Kadri is on administrative leave. Is the school board now taking a leadership role?

The Groton Board of Education made a decision Monday to place Superintendent Paul Kadri on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. The decision came as Groton faces redistricting and consolidating its middle schools.

The board named Mary Anne Butler acting superintendent in his absence.

On Friday, the board and Butler issued messages to parents on the school department website, seeking their support during this time and saying they are working on a smooth transition for the coming school year.

Keith Hedrick, chairman of the education committee for Representative Town Meeting, said Kadri’s removal could leave a leadership void, and requires the adminstration and Board of Education to fill that role.

Mayor Heather Bond Somers expressed a similar sentiment.

"There’s so much going on at the same time, that without strong leadership from the board, and whoever is going to be acting as the superintendent…it could really be the perfect storm,” she said.

Do you believe the board of education is displaying leadership?
