The President of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Says Businesses Need Local Support.

 

The president of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce said this week she'd like to ask every reader of Groton Patch to stop in downtown Mystic in May to help businesses get through the streetscape construction.

“Now more than ever, however, the business in our unique downtown needs the support of our local community,” she said.

Barbara Strother, economic development specialist for Groton, agreed.

She said the combination of the recession, streetscape project and Mystic bridge repair has been hard on businesses, and they need local customers.

The bulk of the streetscape project, a $3.6 million plan to replace sidewalks, install granite curbs and bury utilities, will be done by June 30.

Downtown stores have planned a sidewalk sale on May 5 and 6.
