Connecticut Sun Will Have A New Look In 2011

The Connecticut Sun will be wearing a new uniform in 2011, the team announced.

Thursday, adidas unveiled new WNBA uniforms with Revolution 30 technology and women’s basketball specific TECHFIT base layers. The uniforms are 30 percent lighter, and dry twice as fast as previous WNBA uniforms to help keep athletes cooler, drier and more comfortable on the court. All 12 WNBA teams will wear the new uniforms beginning this season.

New technology isn’t the only change in the Sun uniform. It will also have an updated look, including offset numbers on the front of the home white jersey, opposite color detailing on the top of the back of both jerseys and a stripe featuring the WNBA wordmark on both the home and away shorts.

“We are really excited about the new uniforms,” Connecticut Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said Thursday. “The league allowed us to help with the design, and I think our fans are really going to like the new look of both our home and road uniforms. They are really sharp.”

The new uniforms, which are made from 60 percent recycled materials, feature adidas’ Formotion technology which reduces seams, decreases friction between the garment and the player’s skin and optimizes the player’s natural movement through specially constructed material. adidas reduced uniform weight and increased player comfort by switching front and back numbers from heavier, dense materials to breathable mesh.  The new uniform absorbs moisture in less than three seconds as a result of adidas CLIMACOOL fabrics, which move heat and sweat away from the body through a combination of moisture management materials, ventilation channels and three dimensional garments, helping the uniform dry twice as fast.

The new jerseys will be shown during the WNBA Draft presented by adidas broadcast on ESPN on April 11^th.
