1. Today is Monday, April 30. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 56 degrees. Tonight the forecast calls for increasing clouds, a low of 44 degrees and a chance of showers after 2 a.m.
2. The Groton Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in the Groton Senior Center, and is expected to vote on Other agenda items include approval of plans for roof replacement at Fitch High School and portables at West Side and Cutler middle schools.

3. Representative Town Meeting will hold its annual budget meeting at 7 p.m. today in the Groton Senior Center, and will hear public comment. – a 2.2 percent increase over the current year’s spending. If adopted as proposed, the budget would result in a 1.21 mill increase in the tax rate, from 18.89 mills to 20.10 mills, or an increase of 6.4 percent.
4. The State Department of Transportation starts work today on a project to resurface Cow Hill Road from Interstate-95 to Route 184. The milling contractor will work first and the paving contractor will take over on May 7. The project is scheduled to be done May 10.

5. One of Groton's police officers has received an academic honor. Groton Town Patrol Officer Sean O'Brien, who has been with the department since 2009, was inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society Chapter at Mitchell College, according to a report by the town manager. The honor is based on his grade point average.
