Daily Five: A Memorial Day Remembrance

Five Things To Know Friday, May 25.

1.  Today is Friday, May 25.  The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy skies, a high temperature of 67 degrees and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly before 4 p.m. The low will drop to 58 degrees tonight.

2.  The Groton Base U.S. Submarine Veterans will hold a Memorial Day Service and USS Scorpion remembrance from 11 a.m. until noon on Monday at the National Submarine Veterans Memorial East in Groton. A reception will follow at the clubhouse.

3.  Stacia Pombrio, a junior at , is holding a fundraiser this weekend so she can take part in HOPE Youth Corps, Haiti, which is helping build a community center and assist with program development in an orphanage.  Stacia needs to raise $1,250, plus her travel expenses. Fundraisers include a HOPE Youth Corps Haiti Fundraiser Dance at 7 p.m. on Saturday at 625 Poquonnock Road in Groton. You can attend or help by making a donation. 4.  Mallove’s Jewelers in Mystic will hold its official grand opening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 7 at the store on Cottrell Street in downtown Mystic. The family businesses has continued for three generations. For more information on Mallove’s, go to http://mallovejewelers.com/.

5.  The Ebenezer Avery House opens for the season this weekend, and will remain open until Labor Day. The house is open from noon until 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
