Daily Five: School Board Expected To Appoint Interim Superintendent Today

1. Today is Tuesday, May 29. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 76 degrees and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight, and the low will drop to 66 degrees.
2. The Groton Board of Education meets at 8:30 p.m. today in executive session in the library at Fitch High School and is expectedas interim superintendent in Groton. The school board committee of the whole will also meet earlier, at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, to discuss topics including curriculums for middle school math and language arts and portable classrooms for Cutler and West Side middle schools.

3. The Groton Town Police Department will conduct spot checks on Wednesday to check for distracted driving, seat belt use and use of hands-free devices with cell phones. The fine for seat belt violations is $92. The spot checks are being done in conjunction with the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
4. Art on Groton Bank is seeking artists and crafters for this summer's outdoor art festival, scheduled from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., July 21 on the grounds of Bill Memorial Library. More than 200 artists have participated in the event over the past five years. 5. Lanmar Aviation will hold a business after hours networking event from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on June 6 at its location at Groton New London Airport.
