Daily Five: School Board Will Discuss Central Office Performace Tonight

Five Things To Know, Monday, May 21

 

1.  Today is Monday, May 21.  The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies, showers, mainly after noon, and a high temperature of 61 degrees. The low will drop to 57 degrees tonight, and the chance of rain is 60 percent.

2.  The Groton Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the school administration building to discuss “pending litigation and central office employee performance,” according to a meeting posting. The chairwoman of the board will ask that the group go into executive session and the board may or may not take action when it returns.

The school board voted 8-0 on May 9 to place Superintendent Paul Kadri on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of his "interactions with and treatment of district employees."

3.  Groton’s middle school construction projects are moving forward. The City of Groton recently approved the portable classroom for West Side Middle School, and the town planning commission will vote on the portable classrooms for Cutler Middle School on Tuesday, according to a memo by Acting Superintendent Mary Anne Butler. The Inland Wetlands Commission also approved the permit to expand the parking lot at Cutler.

4.  Based on discussions among teachers and principals so far, the middle school schedule for next year will include five classes per day, an advisory block and some time for extra help, or an SRBI block. A team of principals and teachers are working on the schedule and meet next on Tuesday.

5.  Representative Town Meeting continues its budget deliberations at 7 p.m. today in the Groton Senior Center. The group will consider the budgets for debt service, Mumford Cove and the capital reserve fund, among others.
