1. Today is Wednesday, May 9. The National Weather Service predicts showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3 p.m., and a high temperature of 61 degrees. The low will fall to 55 tonight.
2. The Groton Town Council heard a proposal Tuesday night by the Noank Fire District Councilors said they would think about the idea then vote during their next Committee of the Whole meeting in two weeks.
Frank Socha, chairman of the fire district’s executive committee, said school could be used for fire district meetings, storage for the historical society, and gatherings of groups like the Mystic Noank Community Band.

3. The Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Juan M. Garcia III, will meet with sailors at today. Garcia will be hold town hall style meetings to review new initiatives that focus on readiness, safety, physical fitness, inclusion and continuum of service. The meeting will include a question and answer session.
4. Representative Town Meeting gathers at 7:30 p.m. today in the Groton Senior Center and will begin discussing, as well as capital projects for the public schools. Items on the agenda include money to remove asbestos, replace the roof at Fitch High School and plan for the next school construction referendum.

5. in Groton will hold its 5K Road Race and Family Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at Eastern Point Beach in Groton. The race benefits the Riverfront Tuition Assistance Fund. Registration is $15, or $20 on race day, with race day registration from 8 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Children are free with a registered adult. For more information, call (860) 445-8151.
