Daily Five: Two Mystic Businesses, a Youth Center and the Probate Judge

Five Things To Know Tuesday, April 17

 

1.  Today is Tuesday, April 17.  The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 73 degrees. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 45 degrees.

2.  Two Mystic businesses are seeking permits from the Groton Zoning Commission. The 85th Day Restaurant on Water Street applied to the commission April 3 to create an outdoor seating area on the eastern portion of the property, along with a stair and wood fence. The Irish pub is seeking a special permit to expand its business to the second floor.

3.  The Planning Commission has approved the site plan to build a 7,200 square foot youth center.  The church on Toll Gate Road filed the plans last summer to build the center on the property, which now includes the brick church, gymnasium and parking.

4.  Nicholas F. Kepple, probate judge of the Southeastern Connecticut regional probate district, was recently named to serve on the Groton Youth and Family Services Advisory Committee. Town Manager Mark Oefinger appointed Kepple to the group, which reviews  and discusses programs and data about youth and families in Groton.

5.  The first of three community meetings on redistricting will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday in the gymnasium. All meetings will be on the same topic, so parents may attend any one of the three to learn about

Other meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on April 19 at Fitch Middle School auditorium; and from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on April 25 at Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School auditorium.
